When you add a domain as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that specific provider. On their end, three records are set up automatically the moment the Internet domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The first one is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the Internet domain where its website is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they show the server that manages the emails for that particular domain name. The site and the email hosting are often regarded as one thing, while they're actually two different services. Having different records for them will enable you to have them with different companies if you would like. For instance, some new company can have fantastic uptime for your site, but you may not want to switch your e-mails from your current host and by employing an A record to point the domain address to the first and MX records to have the emails with the second, you will get the best of both companies. These records are checked when you want to open a website or send an e-mail - in either case, the provider whose name servers are used for the Internet domain is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you're going to see the needed site or your email will be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Web Hosting

If you have a cloud web hosting account with our company and you wish to point either your site or your e-mails to an alternative company, it'll take you literally just 2 mouse clicks to do so. Our Hepsia Control Panel provides an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you're going to be able to see and change the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you choose to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default 2, it will not take more than a few clicks either to add them. You could also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the higher the priority a certain MX record is going to have. The propagation of any record that you change or create won't take more than a few hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which reveals how long a record will remain active after it's modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with our Linux semi-dedicated hosting, will enable you to view the A and MX records for each of the domains or subdomains in your account and if necessary, to edit any of them or create new ones. Handling these records is quite easy as all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so modifying a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes only a few more clicks and in case you experience any issues, you can check out our educational videos on how to create A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by individuals with little or no previous experience, yet advanced enough to give you complete control of all records and to enable you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're moving your e-mails to a different service provider and they ask you to create more than 2 different MX records, you can choose the priority of each one.
